Counselling in Churchtown, Southport

A space to pause, reflect and grow.

Hello and welcome to ‘Counselling With Jenny.’

I’m Jenny and I’m so glad you found my website. Seeking support is courageous and I am here to help you through whatever challenges you face. My approach is warm, compassionate and always centred around you.

Starting therapy can feel like a big decision. With so many counsellors and psychotherapists to choose from, you might wonder how you’re suppose to know who’s qualified, safe and right for you. One of the most reliable ways to make sure your counsellor has achieved a professional counselling qualification and works within an ethical framework is to work with a BACP registered therapist (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ).

I work with both adults and children, tailoring sessions to meet individual needs. I offer face to face counselling from my private therapy room, in Churchtown, Southport. I also offer online counselling, giving you the flexibility to choose the option that feels right for you.

Adult Counselling in Southport

I am a qualified Person Centred Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), my approach is warm, compassionate and entirely centred around you. We’ll work together at a pace that feels comfortable and right for you.

I can help you with a range of issues including bereavement, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, relationship break down, divorce and issues associated with parenting.

Person centred therapy is a type of talking therapy that empowers people to find their own solutions, develop self-awareness, increase self-esteem and self-acceptance. Through empathy and genuine understanding, I aim to build a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable being honest and open. Together we can explore what may be troubling you, make sense of your experiences and consider what you need to move forward.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), is a talking therapy that explores the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Together we gently explore patterns that may be contributing to feelings of anxiety, low mood, stress or feeling stuck. This can include looking at unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, understanding emotional responses and identifying behaviours that may be maintaining difficulties. CBT also offers practical tools and strategies that help build confidence and develop new coping skills.

Children and Young People Counselling in Southport

My experience as a teacher has given me insight into the emotional world of children and young people. I have seen first-hand how worries and difficult experiences can affect confidence, relationships, behaviour and learning. This has shaped my counselling practice and my belief in the importance of creating a space where children feel safe enough to express themselves in their own way.

Integrating person-centred therapy, CBT and therapeutic play, I use a creative and flexible approach that supports each child to express themselves and make sense of their feelings and experiences. Through play, art and other creative approaches, children can explore and understand their emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and build confidence in their ability to navigate life’s challenges.

School Based Counselling

I can offer counselling for children and young people in your school community. If your school is interested in finding out more, please contact me for further information.

Background & Personal Experience

Prior to counselling, I was a teacher for 18 years, during this time I developed a deep understanding of the importance of emotional wellbeing and how this directly impacts how people learn, behave and build relationships. This experience has directly informed my counselling practice, particularly when supporting children, young people and parents. It has taught me to look beyond behaviour, to listen without judgement and to recognise that every individual has their own experiences and ways of communicating.

I am a Mum of two and have experienced life’s ups and downs and I feel I am both professionally and personally equipped to offer genuine support and empathy to those seeking a comfortable space to come, talk and be heard.

In addition to my private work, I currently work part-time for a charity counselling children in schools across Knowsley.
